Staghorn sumac does particularly well at the edge of woods and on open slopes or rocky soil. It needs direct sunlight, and does not tolerate wet soil. It spreads aggressively by rhizomes, so plant where it has plenty of room to expand. Beautiful scarlet fall foliage. The fruits are an important food for songbirds.
